Gage-Tyler Cup 2003 Round 6

17 September 2003

Five Teams started this, the last evening event for the Gage-Tyler Cup. The station was run by your scribe who due to work pressures could not travel into London to try the teams out. However, the site was situated near to my QTH at Piddington, about 2km from the main A40 across four fields.

The local farmer gave me permission to drive to the site which was situated on a slight hill. The aerial was two lengths of wire along a high hedge with a fine copper wire feeding it from a field, in which I had hidden with camoflage netting. My vehicle was also covered over and a tent placed nearby with a dummy Tx and a wire going into the hedge.

Two teams arrived around 8:30 and began to run up & down the hedges, until one team actually spotted the feed wire and applied the torch up into the field, then made a dramatic dash and arrived just in front of the other team (who stated he looked at what he thought was slurry but it moved!!!!)

Two other teams eventually arrived before closedown.

My thanks to all the teams and Tx operators who have attended this year's events and I look forward to seeing you next season.

Brian Bristow.
