2006 Collier Cup round 4

06 July 2006

Alas, only five teams started this fourth round Friday evening DF. Bill Pechey was on this event's Tx. The signal was quite strong but gave various teams a assortment of bearings (my bearing actually went straight through where Bill was hiding). At the 8pm signal my team was situated in the village of Checkendon, near Woodcote (big steam rally in action there) which was only 1.75 km from Bill's Tx. However, success turned to failure - the signal was so strong my new set decided it was in the opposite direction in nearby woods, where we stayed for the next three transmissions. In that time, Steve Stone who didn't have a good bearing at the the start, managed to beat off all of us to finish just after 8:40, with Graham Phillips second. Eventually, I managed to walk back to the car and take the old set out to find that Bill was actually the opposite way, in a wood he had used many years ago. With thoughts of similar action to Roger Shepherd's with the DF set, I then recomposed myself and just sulked. Mark "I crash cars" Coventry did plot wrong bearings for most of the night but eventually found the pub.
