2007 Gage-Tyler Cup Round 5

18 July 2007

After a dreadful Sunday DFing at wet, wet Manchester, I decided to have a go at running this evening's DF event (things did not bode well with this event either).

Eight teams started this event with G4KBB/P not even heard at the start, this was surprising; I had put so much effort into rigging aerials all over the site with earth stakes. However, I did not properly check that the fence which I had used as a feeder was passing the signal into the main harvested field next door. So even with an approximate bearing and a somewhat dodgy distance they all made off in various directions. Only a few heard me at the 8pm transmission and it was these few who managed to get on site around 8:30. Much to my surprise, the dummy aerials kept most of them busy even with the signal on.

The winner of this trial by error was Alan Simmons who found me by exhaustive searching at 8:36pm. This was followed by a thumping of feet down the path just as I signed off with the words "B----r it!". Yes he has returned; it was Mr. Chris Plummer. Chris must now hold our evening long distance DF record for travelling from Biddulph Moor to compete on this one event. (Thanks for the support, Chris).

The location of this site was just on the edge of the Reading and Windsor map along a long track near to Fillingdon Farm. Eventually, seven teams managed to find me within the time.

I promise to make the next DF I run audible at the start.
