Eight teams started at Cowleaze Wood to hear Bill Pechey G4CUE/P. His signal, together with the usual sky-wave giving a variation of 30 degrees. The new kid on the block was Andy Collett who came to pick up the Txs for the weekend's tropical storm event.
All but one team proceeded across towards the Checkendon and Woodcote area and with still signs of sky-wave put Bill's position towards Wallingford. Unbeknown to the rest of the teams, Andy, trusting in his bearing, came across Bill's car at an entrance to the Ridgeway Path ("That will do nicely." he thought).
When running up the path he suddenly came across Steve Stone who was waiting for the third signal. Off they trotted and when the next transmission came on it was just who was with the luck to find Bill first. Meanwhile, all (or most) of the others were plodding around the river etc. near Wallingford only to eventually find Bill was back towards Nuffield on the Ridgeway Path.
After various attempts to get the correct way in to Bills hide, I was greeted (once again) by cheers and after a struggle down the Ridgeway managed to find Bill and his bright yellow aerial.
It was only our supreme champion who decided to try to find Bill from another angle who failed to arrive in the allotted time.
Congratulations to John Mullins who whooped with joy after beating his friend Graham Phillips. A good choice of pub was made in the small hamlet of Hailey.
