2009 Collier Cup Round 7

02 October 2009

Seven teams braved the darker evening's DF; your scribe was the hidden station. I was situated 6km from the start in Leygrove Wood. As it was so close to the start I tried to cut the power down to attempt to make the competitors think I was at least double that distance but, alas, most of the teams worked out that I would possibly be near to my home residence.

The good part was at least there appeared to be less sky-wave interference giving most teams a bearing of circa 110 degrees. It appears that almost all the teams did not go further than the Piddington area when taking the 8pm transmission and found it took them towards the Leygrove Wood area where one is spoilt for choice of access due to many footpaths. Peter Lisle and Steve Stone made the right decision to come in from the north (which was the shortest route). After the 8.15 transmission it became clear that there were torches in the area; after a few more minutes excited voices were heared finding and eventually tracing the antenna across the track right into my hide (alas Peter and Steve found me quite easily).

After transmitting a few more signals it took all the other remainding competitors until after 9pm to find me with most struggling in the nearby pit where the aerial was terminated.

The usual good banter was had at the local pub with congratulations to Peter Lisle sweeping the board on all the local events.

My thanks to all Competitors and transmitter operators that supported MidThames this year.
