The Return of the Hare and Tortoise saga

Operator: Steve Stone

Seven teams arrived at Maidenhead Thicket car park for this fine evening DF hunt which included a return of Claire Barrell and Dave Gething.

Steve's signal at the start was not very impressive but all teams managed to plot a bearing from due north to 20 degrees. Due to the weak signal, all teams plotted their bearings on the Aylesbury map, The hare of DF sped up the map to Wendover Woods whilst the tortoise stopped within one mile of Steve's hide in a thicket wood near Little Kingshill.

Together with Claire and Alan, I somehow chose the car park at Great Kingshill, Steve's second signal was very much stronger than the start and we made off towards the other side of Great Missenden where the third signal was much weaker pointing back towards Little Kingshill. After searching various tracks into suspect woods, I came across Graham Phillips and crew who were convinced Steve was in the wood in front of us. Off I ran leaving the plodders to catch up, and with the signal now on reached the area where Steve was hiding and after frantic searching decided to await his next transmission. On it came but it took me to the path I had previously run down. Then Graham and Alan appeared ("Drat", I thought). After much searching, Steve came on again and this time I managed to DF into his hide and hearing frantic/panic calls was pipped in by Mark Coventry who's only question was whether had he beaten Peter Lisle (the Hare). "Yes", was the reply, "but Graham Phillips got here eight minutes ago!"

Alas Peter had tried to conquer this event but had to accept the the plodders were the best this evening. A good natter was held at the Full Moon pub where we all experienced the Space Station orbiting above us.
