2011 Collier Cup Round 3

03 June 2011

Eight teams arrived at the start to hear a welcome return to DF from John Champion. Also competing was Roger Shepherd.

John's first signal was weak and heard by most teams giving a bearing around 120 degrees which pointed towards Beaconsfield.

Bill Pechey and Alan Simmons elected to drive to Little Marlow, little knowing that they were in a prime position, whilst I and various others managed to get up to Beaconsfield.

At 8pm John's signal was greatly increased and gave me a bearing back towards Little Marlow. On driving down towards Little Marlow we passed a local pub and viewed the footpath towards Bloom Wood but failed to spot John's car and indeed Bill's car who was already running in.

Third transmission on and it confirmed that John was indeed in Bloom Wood. After a quick drive back and a steady jog up the footpath into the wood I came across Alan frantically searching the array of bushes, with no sign of Bill. The fourth signal on the DF set sent us down the edge of the wood until the DF set blocked out. There was Bill stating that it was difficult to DF (yes, Bill, we knew that you had been in). With a last frantic search I found John hidden just outside the wood very close to the footpath. A little later, Alan came down and spotted John.

It was some time after that the rest of the teams arrived on site but all eight teams managed to find John before close down.

Thanks to John for a fine DF event.
