As Roger Shepherd ran my Wednesday event it was only right that I helped run Roger's.
Five teams arrived at the start to receive a massive signal from Roger's new Tx which was situated just over 1km from the start down Bald Hill. It was decided that we would not erect any aerials (anti-Lisle tactic) but just link the Tx into a fairly new fence upper support wire and counter poising the earth some 10 metres on the bottom part of the fence.
Andy Collett did suspect that the Tx was near and started to run down the hill, but decided maybe not and returned to the start.
Expecting all teams to arrive near to site at the 8pm signal but only Bill Pechey arrived nearby at 19:50.
20:00 transmission no sign of any teams, 20:15 still no signs of life, 20:30 Roger appears and asked if any team has been in (answer NO). 20:40 Ha, Ha; some torches behind me and then just as I signed off a torch pursuing the fence with mutterings (where the hell are you!) then after seeing groundsheet Bill Pechey finally got in first. A few minuets later, the other four teams arrived through the back end of the site. All but one team started their run in from the Ridgeway path; John Mullins went back to the start and proceeded to DF the site downwards.
After arriving at local pub it was then discovered that all roads leading towards London were gridlocked due to a major fire on a coach on the M40, I hope all teams eventually made it home in a suitable time.
