On a cold and dark evening, I sat under a fallen tree, probably the same one Brian used some ten years back. Unfortunately, the signal was poor and and interference did not help. The tx was located above Piddington not far from our usual pub, the Dashwood Arms.
Alan Simmons
At the start, the signal was very poor; those who heard it thought it was roughly north. The approximate bearing went very close to Alan's home so many teams headed for Princes Risborough. I was a bit late starting and only got as far as the West Wycombe area. This was lucky because I wasn't very far from Alan. My next bearing was not very good as I was a bit rushed and parked under some power lines near the Peacock pub. Eventually, I concluded that Alan was just north of Wheeler End Common and started walking from there. It was further to the wood than I thought but I arrived there soon after Steve. Bearings in the wood were tricky and I found Alan by finding the loudest signal. Apparently, the antenna was connected to a wire fence in two places. That may have accounted for the lack of local bearings and poor signal at the start.
We met afterwards at the Dashwood Arms where they were holding a very loud karaoke night. It was almost impossible to chat and too cold outside so we didn't stay long.
Thanks to Alan for kicking off the season with a good event.
