Thanks to Justin for stepping in at short notice to run this event after Peter Bradley was unavailable. The signal at the start was good with negligible skywave and most people got pretty accurate bearings. We went to Stoke Row for the 8pm transmission to get away from the bearing for a good cross. This led us to the wood close to the old Bottle and Glass pub (now sadly closed). We took a bearing at the southern end of the wood and I almost decided to run in from there (I should have done), but I decided to drive round to the pub and run in from there. This was probably because I remember once getting disorientated in that wood and taking a long time to find my way out.

Once in the wood, the signal led Graham and me to the edge of the wood where there was a fence with some patches of dense hedge. We both went up and down the hedge but could see no sign of Justin. After a while, I went away from the hedge in the hope that the next transmission would lead me to the true site. It led me back to the hedge!

It was then a case of trying to find a site away from the hedge. The woodland was very open with a few piles of brushwood and some small rhododendron bushes. The nearest of these looked as if it might just be big enough so I had a close look. I was just about to walk on when I saw the glint of the aluminium panel of the transmitter. A hand came out to get my card and that was it. I don't know how Justin managed to get inside without damaging the bush but he did. Alan, Graham and John followed soon afterwards. On the way out of the wood we came across Brian and Steve on their way in.

Everyone found the station and we all met afterwards in the Unicorn at Shiplake Bottom (except for Brian who couldn't find the pub!). We sat outside as it was still warm enough (just!).
