2016 Gage-Tyler Cup Round 2

13 April 2016

Only four teams started, possibly because there was some confusion over the date. Alan was on the transmitter. A good signal was heard at 1930, although there was some sky wave, everybody was happy with their bearing. I plotted 300 degrees which pointed north of Henley. This was to be my only good bearing of the evening! I stopped just before Nettlebed for the 2000 transmission. The signal was strong but my bearing was over 30 degrees out. After a series of other poor bearings, I eventually ended up at Russell's Water and found Graham's team in a pub car park at around 2100 hours. Fortunately, Alan kept the transmitter running for the stragglers and I was able to DF my way across Russell's Water Common to a wooded area. Then it became difficult as the wood had been used for clay extraction in the past and was full of large craters making it impossible to walk in any sort of straight line. Fortunately I could see Steve's torch through the trees and eventually made my way to the operator without falling in any of the craters. Even getting out of this wood proved problematical with Steve going his own way and getting lost.
